Cyprus Well Grassroots

Hi, I'm Gina from apples&snakes! Welcome to our page at Cyprus Well! apples&snakes is the leading organisation for performance poetry in the UK and the South West is one of our biggest regions - over the past few years many exciting projects and events have found their home here. Regular events such as Forked in Plymouth and the Gallery Sessions in Barnstaple have become regular highlights for venues, audiences and artists alike. apples&snakes are passionate about supporting artists in the region by providing opportunities to develop, explore & expand in the fields of performance poetry and spoken word. If you are a practicing poet, emcee, storyteller, lyricist, compare or a wordsmith of any description then you can get in touch with me here to ask a question or join the mailing list. Keep an eye too on the Cyprus Well Literature News page to hear about apples&snakes events.

Each month a South West based poet will be showcased here, so keep your eyes peeled for an array of immensely talented artists coming soon ...

South West Poet Profile: Hannah Silva

South West based writer and performer Hannah Silva performs internationally, recently toured the country with Apples & Snakes Public Address and was featured on Radio 3’s The Verb. With past works including Boat on the water, a poetry/dance/theatre piece on board a small boat (2009), a background in music, choreography and theatre, and influences spanning Luciano Berio, Tim Crouch and David J, Hannah has been described by The Times Online as ‘one of the most ambitious and entertaining poets in the country’ (Top Ten Literary Stars of 2008).

“Hannah Silva is one of the most exciting, original artists on the UK poetry scene. Her unique word play has a piercing intelligence and genuine warmth that never fails to charm audiences”
Sarah Ellis – Head of creative programmes, The Albany.
