How to deal with bunions?

Bunions are a common condition of the foot, especially in females. Bunions are an enlargement on the inside of the great toe joint which could become painful in footwear and also develop osteoarthritis in the joint. They are thought to be more prevalent in women because they are more likely to wear tighter and poorer fitting footwear. The main cause of bunions are considered to be a blend of environment and genetics. The environmental issues are tighter fitting footwear that deforms the foot. Also, there is a genetic element as people who don’t wear shoes may get them. It’s now commonly thought that the shoes might not be the direct cause, but poorer footwear brings them on at an earlier age, makes the bunion develop faster and helps make the eventual outcome a whole lot worse.

The only way to get rid of bunions is via surgical treatment. There are several alternative techniques widely marketed online and in social media, but it’s unlikely that any of them actually get rid of them. They frequently use fake before and after photographs and bogus testimonials from others. Surgical treatment are certainly not minor and may result in some impairment afterward with a long and gradual return to full activity. In the event that surgical treatment is not recommended or not wanted, then usually the pain might be handled by some other methods. If there is a lot of pressure on the  bunion, then using wider and much better fitting footwear that is broader can frequently help. If not, then pads on the foot to get pressure off the enlarged joint can help. While corrective splints do not work at aligning the great toe, they are often helpful as a physical therapy treatment to keep the toe flexible. This usually is great for pain within the joint. If you are having troubles with bunions then a podiatrist is probably the best to provide guidance as to if surgical or conservative care is the better solution.
